Meet Kerry-Lee Gockel: The Wingless Warrior Championing Inclusion and Resilience
Kerry-Lee Gockel, affectionately known as the “Wingless Warrior,” was born with congenital amelia—without arms—but has never let that define her limits. A former solicitor turned Queensland Treasury professional, Kerry-Lee has carved out a career marked by adaptability, courage, and purpose. She lives life her own way, squeezing every drop out of it.
Beyond her professional achievements, Kerry-Lee is a passionate advocate for inclusion, resilience, and community. Her lived experience fuels her powerful message: while not everything is possible, everyone has the power to explore and expand what is possible for them. She’s a sought-after public speaker and mentor, encouraging others to embrace vulnerability and build strong support networks.
An accomplished open-water swimmer, Kerry-Lee swims freestyle using fins and sheer determination. In 2022, she completed the 10km Island Charity Swim on the Sunshine Coast, and in 2025, she pushed her limits even further with a 20.4km tandem solo swim around Wop-pa (Great Keppel Island), finishing in just over six hours.
This year, Kerry-Lee proudly joins the Brisbane Disability Expo as its official ambassador. Held on Friday 31 October and Saturday 1 November at the Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre, the Expo is a celebration of empowerment, connection, and accessible support.
Kerry-Lee will take the stage for a live Q&A, sharing her journey and insights on navigating life with disability, the power of community, and the importance of knowing what support is available.
“There’s huge power in sharing stories,” she says. “I hope people walk away feeling empowered to ask for help and build their network around them.”
Whether you’re seeking inspiration, services, or connection, the Brisbane Disability Expo is a must-attend event—featuring hundreds of providers across government, health, education, transport, leisure, and more.
